Safe and Sound

I remember tears streaming down your face
When I said I’ll never let you go
When all those shadows almost killed your light
I remember you said Don’t leave me here alone
But all that’s dead and gone and past tonight

Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You’ll be all right
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I’ll be safe and sound

Don’t you dare look out your window
Darlin everything’s on fire
the war outside our door keeps raging on
Hold on to this lullaby
Even when the musics gone
Gone

Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You’ll be all right
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I’ll be safe and sound

Ooowoowooo
Ooowoowooo
ahhwahh
ahhwahh
Ooowoowooo
Ooowoowooo
ahhwahh
ahhwahh

Just close your eyes
You’ll be all right
Come morning light
You and I’ll be safe and sound

Ooowoowooowooowooo (X12)

  • Well thats news! I wonder what the song will go with… hmm.

  • It’s on iTunes so I’m pretty sure it’s official! I’m not a Swift fan at all, but this song is actually pretty freaking AMAZING. I can’t wait to see what else is on the soundtrack! Looks like they’re going the country route, part way at least (since Miranda Lambert also said something about writing one she was hoping to get on!) Very excited for this :)

  • My sister loves the Civil Wars. Maybe I can convince her to read the Hunger Games now. Surely?

    • If the artists didn’t approve that then you shouldn’t tell people cuz’ musicians need to make a living too. It isn’t ethical to steal from people.

  • Oh yeah. The song was b-e-a-u-t-ful… seriously…

  • maybe she;ll sing the song @ the consert im going to on the 18 of march? hopefully, that would be awesome!

  • Eh… Not thrilled about swift, but oh well

  • I think Rue along with this song and then I totally tear up. I will not survive this movie.

  • Taylor Swift is my favorite singer i LOVE HER!! and the HUNGER GAMES is my favorite book series!!! i Was freaking out and jumping around and screaming all around my house when i heard the news :D ! too bad i dont have an itune card so i could by the song.. :(

  • Rue! This is so Rue’s Death Scene!! So Sad

  • I’m sooooooooooooo excited!!!!! I’m a huge fan of Taylor Swift and I’ve always thought that some of her songs went well with THG anyway (like Innocent, Long Live, and Haunted). <3 <3 <3!!!!!!!

  • Cave scene?

  • Not a Taylor Swift fan at all, but the song is very beautiful. Like Theresa said I think of Rue when hearing it. Maybe it can be some sort of parallel for the lullaby (she mentions lullaby in the song, just a guess). I hope the other songs are more hauntingly beautiful than this one. I got teary eyed hearing this, how am I going to get through the previews when waiting to watch the movie?

  • When you look at the info in iTunes, under Composers, it lists T Bone Burnett as one of them. Can’t wait to hear his score! This song is beautiful <3

  • Pretty song! Sad to hear it’s probably about Rue, though. It makes sense…and makes me want to cry!

  • Does anyone have the lyrics?

  • I feel like this could be a likely song for the goodbye scene with Katniss and Prim or maybe as she’s getting on the train.

    • I thought the same thing! I think it’s either going to be Peeta and Katniss in the cave, not because of the lyrics but because of the beat to the song. Maybe Rue, but to do that they would have to cut out the part when Katniss sings to Rue before she dies, and that’s one of the biggest parts in the book! Or maybe when Peeta and Katniss are on the train on their way to the Capitol…we’re just going to have to wait till March to find out!!

  • Ah, lyrics!! This is why you guys rock. :) Thank you!

  • your lyrics are great , thanks

haha, all those uuuus and ahhsss are getting on my nerves

  • this is totally the cave scene with peeta after katniss has drugged him. “just close your eyes, you’ll be all right, Morning light you and i will be safe and sound” this is when she is saying goodbye to peeta with the cameras watching. she is telling him before she leaves that he’ll be all right and that in the morning they will both be safe and sound after she goes off to the feast. At first i also thought it was for Rue but then they already confirmed Jennifer was singing the lullaby. soooo… i imagined this and thought it would be a perfect goodbye song can’t you just imagine katniss gathering her stuff and taking one last look at peeta before she enters the dark forest promising him silently that in the morning they will both be safe and sound!!! Perfect couldn’t love this song more!!

    • My thoughts exactly. Something about this song fits the cave scene.

    • Yes, I definitely thought of the cave scene when I heard this, but not that specefic part! I think you’re right!

    • I think i totally agree even though it oddly reminds me of Katniss singing to Rue
I am pretty sure i’ll be crying when it’ll play in HG

    • THATS WHAT I SAID!!!! thats EXACTLY what i said! because the beat itself fits into a cave theme…and also on how Katniss HAS to sing rue’s lullaby!!

  • OMG. it’s going to be IN the movie?!
    I’m sooooo dead*-*

  • I’m with the people who don’t care for Taylor but this is very lovely.

I thought of Rue, not Peeta+Kat, but it seems I’m a bit behind on info, so yay :)

  • I think it’s Rue’s death, but I wonder…. Didn’t Jennifer record a song for that scene?

    • Jennifer recorded Rue’s Lullaby. :) Taylor’s song isn’t necessarily played during that scene. It could be after that, during the credits, or even at some other point in the film entirely.

  • Hearing it makes me want to cry. Gosh I’m such a wimp :P i think its Katniss and Prim, before leaving for the games and Katniss is talking to her mom and sister about how to survive without her.

  • I’m thinking the train scene at the end with Peeta and Katniss maybe?
Just adding a bit of a different opinion here :P

nice song kind of fits with the part where katniss and peta are in the cave

  • I also think this moment fits with a “prim-katniss” scene, or when katniss is for the first time alone in the train taking her to the capitol, living her first night as a tribute.
Or maybe it will be for the generic, because I don’t see Hunger games as a movie full of songs (songs with lyrics i mean), 2 songs must be on the front (rue’s lullaby and the hanging tree). Adding ohter songs, not coming from katniss or the hunger games world, would be wrong I think…

    • there are so many possibilites, and i agree with all of yours. I thought prim and katniss, rue and katniss (before they go to sleep in the trees, because she cant sing it while rues dying since its katniss’s lullaby to her) or peeta and katniss in the cave(before she leaves for the feast), or either katniss on the way to the capitol, or, and this seems most likely, the LAST scene in the book when they are on the train back to district 12 and peeta says “one more time, for the crowd”!

  • …and now I’m crying.

  • Omg yay!! Taylor Swift is amazing!!!

  • OMG, this is so beautiful
I think it will be for Rue’s death of course.. ONLY 3 MONTHS TO GO!! :O

  • oooooh! this could go with the Katniss and Peeta cave scene! orr… mabye the death of Rue. Beautiful song <3

  • My favourite artist singing a song for the movie of my favourite book? An amazing early Christmas present :)

I think fits with Katniss and Rue and Katniss and Peeta in the cave, and it’s made me even more excited to see the movie!

  • Ahhhhhhhhhhh
This movie is killing me with all these news and its not even out yet
    Lovely song
Can’t wait to hear the rest of the songs
Taylor Swift can lure more new fans witha awesome song wondering what this movie is all about

  • I can’t stand Taylor Swift, but I love the Hunger Games, so I guess my love for THG is stronger than my hate for Taylor Swift. Conclusion: I like this song.
I agree with everyone above, I think this is either for Rue or the cave scene (I’m feeling the cave scene more).

  • Is there any other site where I can buy the song? I can’t buy it on iTunes unless I live in the US ;(

    • UK Amazon says it will be available to download on 29th December :)

    • I know a way but its kind of complicated… You need to have iTunes and this on youtube…. I just finished downloading it into my fone. Reply back if you want to know how…. :)

I think it would be a crime not to have the on the HG soundtrack! they should play it in the film where peeta and Katniss are either in bed, on the roof, in the cave or in the stream

  • This has h=to be in the cave seen! It’s PERFECT!! :)

i think that this is a gr8 cobo of the amaing Taylor Swift and the amazig Hunger Games. The song is downrght awesome
I think it should be played when prim and their mom leave katniss on her own in the mayors house and then fade into the image of the train pulling away from district 12 with katniss watching out of a window (with peeta in the background) and then gradually show the beginning of the journey (taking in what has to happen) and watching the sunset, etc.

  • This is Katniss and Peeta’s song– definitely a good cave scene song. Touching, haunting, and beautiful. =)

  • I think this song would be perfect for Catching Fire, where Katniss and Peeta are having nightmares and they sleep together, protecting each other.

  • Wow. My initial reaction to Taylor Swift being on this album was irritation, but this song is actually beautiful… This certainly shows that they are cognizant (and care) about what the fans want. I may not have preferred Taylor Swift, but I know many other fans wanted some of her songs on the soundtrack. Nice work Lionsgate and co!!!!

  • Okay first off I’m a fan of Taylor Swift, I know lots of people hate her but I think her music is fun(most of the time). That’s why when I read this I was a little worried. Then I saw ft. The Civil Wars and they are more like the kind of music I expected for the soundtrack. When I finally listened to the song I’m still not sure how I feel about? On first listen I don’t like all the ahhhhh ahhhh ahh. But it can play in the back of A LOT of scene and really isn’t that the point. I’m sure I’ll love it after a few more times.

  • Im a massive Taylor Swift fan and I love this song!!! Its joining my mental list of other songs I cant get enough of:)

  • WHAT IS THIS MADNESS, NO

  • I LOVE IT!!!! I agree that this song would go really well with the cave scene when she’s taking care of Peeta. I absolutely love Taylor Swift and I think she was an awesome addition to the soundtrack. I can’t wait!

  • I totally thought of the cave scene, but after reading the comments it might be after Rue’s death when Katniss is walking away :( Thanks DWTC for the lyrics :D

  • Just heard the song. If this is the song they play with Rue, I think I might die. Thank you for the lyrics! I think this song goes with the movie perfectly. Great lyrics! This is so sad but so good!!

  • OMG! I’m a huge Taylor Swift fan and this just made my freaking life! I had a fantasy about a Taylor song in the movie but knowing Taylor’s songs I knew they wouldn’t use any of them but this new song is amazing and perfect!

  • This will Play after rues death.

  • OMG i just started obssessing over Taylor Swift a few weeks ago and now THIS…. Im sooo happy, shes very talented. This song can fit in many scences; In the cave, Prim and Katniss saying goodbye, Rues death…..

  • I wonder if this is Rue’s luaby?
It seems like it when she says the worlds on fire hold onto this luaby.

  • I bet on Prim. There is a protectiveness in the lyrics that I fit with her. Makes me cry and I am not a Taylor Swift fan. It,s the first song she sing taht I actually love.

  • I think this is going to be when Rue dies…

  • I’m with Alicia; all I hear in this song is Katniss singing to Prim. So protective!

  • I reckon it fits with just about the whole thing.:) I found it on youtube a few hours ago and it had just over 800 views and now it has nearly 40,000 :O How does that happen?

  • wow……that was awesome…never thought taylor could write something like that….i mean i love her music, but this is totally different! LOVE IT!! I can totally see this as a katniss to prim thing ;)

  • This is amazing. It made me cry because as soon as I read the lyrics I thought of Rue and her lullaby.

  • P-E-R-F-E-C-T!

Yes my thoughts exactly. It fits more Katniss singing it to Peeta.

  • This has gotta be there cave scene, because obviously the meadow song/Rue’s lullaby is gonna be what plays/ Katniss sings during Rue’s death scene, where as there is no song mentioned in the book during the cave scene, so this would fit perfectly:)

  • the song is cool and all but for some reason whenever i listen to it i get really angry at everything there must be something wrong with me lol wait thats nothing to lol at 0__0

  • i realized something!! the lyrics say “Hold onto this lullaby, even when the music’s gone” and when it says gone you faintly hear the sound of a HOVERCRAFT in the background! it means that even if MOCKINGJAY’S stop singing the son, keep hold to it. but, we’ll just have to wait to find out

    • oh sorry the hovercraft noise actually comes in the end when she says “come morning light, you and i’ll be safe and sound” for the last time. this would fit perfectly into rue’s death scene, with the only problem being that katniss is supposed to sing to rue…but like when she sees her, then kills the other kid, then covers her in fowers, then walks away and hears the hovercraft take her away…

  • i think her(katniss’) affection for rue is a kind of extension of her unquestioning love for prim so this song seems more appropriate for their scene, rather then the cave scene because her feelings for Peeta our continuously conflicted throughout the entire book, and this song has NO confliction about it

  • This has to be the night on top of the Cornucopia. Where she doesn’t want Peeta to ‘leave her here alone’ and the sun sets, and she’s like come morning light, you and I will be Safe & Sound.

  • It reminds me of Rues death…I think its gonna be played when Katniss covers Rue in flowers cause theres no talking or anything so i think it would work.

  • I think this will be the cave scene… or when she is returning to peeta after she gets the medicine for him…..
