Whomever is keeping up with Josh Hutcherson’s film career will be familiar with “Detention,” described as involving a slasher-film killer on the loose, resulting in possible suspects being held in detention on the day of the prom. Josh Hutcherson, our Peeta, stars as a hipster named Clapton.

This film  originally debuted at SXSW in Austin, Texas in March of 2011. It has received various awards and accolades, but has, until now, lacked a widespread release. Well, as of yesterday, that has changed.

The official release date is April 13, 2012, a week earlier than the previously rumored date. AMC theaters across the country will be carrying the film– however, they all seem to be located in major cities, such as Atlanta, Chicago, New York, and Seattle. (A full list is available here and includes what theaters in each city will carry the film.)

In addition to now having a release date, “Detention” also has an official website! DetentionMovie.com has pages for the trailer, cast and crew, reviews, and more! For anyone uncertain about seeing the film, it has information on the plot and ratings for the squeamish.

Below, we have included a clip of “Detention” featuring Josh for your consideration. As a warning, it does include a smidge of crude language, so do not watch if you are easily offended. (No worries, though, no blood and gore here!)

That was Josh Hutcherson as Clapton in “Detention.” The official website also has a full trailer for the film, or international fans can view it here on youtube.

What do you think of all the “Detention” news? Does it look like a film you’d be interested in seeing? I know I’ll be checking it out once it hits theaters April 13th!
