Though this should come as no surprise to fans, The Hunger Games film has been officially given a PG-13 rating from the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA).

So, what specific reasons were given for the PG-13?  Well the MPAA notes: “Intense Violent Thematic Material and Disturbing Images – All involving teens.”  Yup, that sounds about right. ;)   Thanks to our readers for the tip!

Runtime Update:  We received confirmation today from Celebration Cinema, that the “Official Word” they received for the runtime of The Hunger Games film is indeed 142 minutes as reported here.  (Note: They deleted their original tweet with this information because they had released it too early)  We have also noted that this is the time listed on the Cinemark website as well (Thanks @MlleNouveau).  So, this would seem to confirm we have a 2 hour and 22 minute film (including credits) to enjoy on 3/23/12! :)
