‘The Hunger Games’ Film Officially Rated PG-13 & an Update on Runtime
Though this should come as no surprise to fans, The Hunger Games film has been officially given a PG-13 rating from the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA).

So, what specific reasons were given for the PG-13? Well the MPAA notes: “Intense Violent Thematic Material and Disturbing Images – All involving teens.” Yup, that sounds about right.
Thanks to our readers for the tip!
Runtime Update: We received confirmation today from Celebration Cinema, that the “Official Word” they received for the runtime of The Hunger Games film is indeed 142 minutes as reported here. (Note: They deleted their original tweet with this information because they had released it too early) We have also noted that this is the time listed on the Cinemark website as well (Thanks @MlleNouveau). So, this would seem to confirm we have a 2 hour and 22 minute film (including credits) to enjoy on 3/23/12!

Just a formality, really
we all knew what it was going to be!

I’m so glad that “language” isn’t one of the reasons, cuz that’d just be an unnecessary thing hollywood would add to mostly clean books!
good to know. I don’t mind violence.

I knew that too. I saw it on Tuesday with my friend who got us into an advanced screening with her cousin. We’re not allowed to talk about it, but all I can say is it was great. We even saw parts they’re not showing anywhere else ever. Then we Skype the actors.

Please Stop commenting on the movie when you haven’t seen it yet. People are asking about the Movie. Almost all of us that are so excited about seeing the movie have read the book…

Matthew, the saddest part of the book for me is when Rue is killed. Be prepared for that and the rest will be ok.

i think it should be rates PG because i’m 11 and i have been looking forward to this and a lot of people i know loves the book and wants to see the movie and are now broken-hearted because its rated PG-13.
sorry hun, couldn’t be pg. there are 25 year olds who love the series that wish it was rated r so it could capture every detail, so pg13 was a compromise. just get your mom to buy the tickets, youre too young to go by yourself anyway!

besides, it’s not appropriate to show killing in a pg movie, it would be too disturbing for other kids aged 6 and 7. enjoy the movie!

So right!

what!?!?! what about Bambi?!?! and Finding Nemo?!!? ALL THE MOMS DIED IN THOSE!! THEY WERE SOOO SAD! and besides, why the heck would 25 year olds be reading teen books, I mean it’s about teens KILLING EACH OTHER COME ON!

I’m 38 (almost 39.gasp) and a creator/admin for this site and I love YA books. In fact YA books have a huge adult fan base, especially The Hunger Games.

Oh wow please don’t ruin the whole show for people by saying crap like team peeta! Or anything because it ruins the show for boys who like the books and the show. Stop trying to make it like twilight and all that crap because it isn’t twilight.

I was hoping it would be rated R and it would have blood and stuff in it. The book wasn’t even that good.

It’s really sad how some of u are worried about violence and nudedy.
I’m 12 and ive been aloud to see R movies and play M games since I was 3.

Is there any sexual seems in it???

the hunger games are for 2 or older and i am a mature adult and i went to the movie and i left my 5 year old son stay and watch the entire movie by himself and had no problems
that’s what i think.
