Country star, Miranda Lambert, recently spoke with Tulsa World about her involvement with The Hunger Games soundtrack, her love for the books and the inspiration behind the track.

How has response been to your “The Hunger Games” single, “Run Daddy Run,” by the Pistol Annies? What about the story was so compelling that you felt the need to write and submit a song for the movie soundtrack?

“The Hunger Games” soundtrack was just released on March 20, but right away it was the No. 1 album on iTunes. I am absolutely obsessed with the books, and I was so excited to attend the premiere of the awesome movie! Pistol Annies and I all relate to the main character, Katniss, in different ways – I’m an archer, Angaleena (Presley) is a coal miner’s daughter, and Ashley (Monroe) lost her dad at a young age. We were out on the road together after we all read the books by Suzanne Collins and felt so inspired that we had to write a song, and with a little luck, we got to be part of the soundtrack.
