‘Catching Fire’ Producer, Nina Jacobson Says The Field for Finnick is “Wide Open”

6/5/2012Catching Fire

All those Finnick rumors are just that says Catching Fire producer, Nina Jaocobson.  While at the MTV Movie Awards this weekend, the LA Times 24 Frames Blog caught up with Nina to check up on all those whispers that have been floating around recently.  She also speaks about the impact of fan picks when choosing a cast for the film.

That’s the thing that’s crazy — people are like way ahead of where we are,” Nina Jacobson told us on the red carpet at the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday. “We’ve not narrowed things down by any means. It’s funny to see how things can take on a life of their own.”

But are the filmmakers taking fan input into account while seeking out their Finnick? Not entirely, says Jacobson.

“It means something that people can see [an actor] in that light, so you know [the actor] will be accepted by a lot of people, on the one hand,” she said. “On the other hand, you have to kind of ignore it. You have to just sort of act like you’re sitting in a room and you want to just pick the person who gives the best audition and looks and feels most like the part.”

Since its release in March, “The Hunger Games” has collected over $645 million worldwide. The next installment is due in November 2013. “That’s pressure,” Jacobson acknowledged with a smile. “But it’s a good kind of pressure.”

So it appears the rumors and whispers are one step ahead of the actual production.

Finally! Some confirmed news about the casting!

  • Not terribly surprised those rumors were bogus, but glad to hear it from the horse’s mouth.

    It’s going to be a long couple of months . . .

Welp! There it is. As much as there is a certain Finnick in mind by everyone, would totally be fine if they went with an ideal unknown actor for the pick. Like Nina says, if he gets the job done and has the feel and look of Finnick I’m with it.

  • Thanks Nina! That is good to know! I agree that you should pick the actor that is right for the role, all I ask is that you give Nick Roux (from Jane By Design) a chance to Audition! I can’t hear Finnicks name without picturing Nick Roux! <3

  • Well, we all knew that was true. But its nice hearing it from the producer ;)
Although, I would’ve been nice if she had given us an idea about when they might have their Finnick chosen… :(

This has nothing to do with Finnick, but I was just thinking about its release on November 22nd of next year and I just realized that is Thanksgiving. So does that mean it starts showing Wednesday at midnight, or Thursday at midnight because I can’t tell if it means it starts showing thursday at midnight ( Friday ) or that it’s actual release is on thursday so the first showing would be Wednesday at midnight? I know I’m confusing, it’s just that when I bought my ticket for thg it considered thursday midnight as the 22nd when technically that is Friday the 23rd.

  • WTFINNICK Aren’t they shooting the end of summer/fall of this year.. They should have at least some casting if not all..
