UPDATE: THR has Confirmed Philip Seymour Hoffman Has Been Offered the Role of Plutarch in Catching Fire

6/12/2012Catching Fire

Hold on to your bows, Hunger Games fans, looks like we are indeed on the verge of our first casting announcement.  Yesterday, rumors began flying that Philip Seymour Hoffman had been offered the role of Head Gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.  Now The Hollywood Reporter has CONFIRMED that an official offer has been made.

Philip Seymour Hoffman received an official offer to play Plutarch Heavensbee in Catching Fire, Lionsgate’s sequel to The Hunger Games, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Hoffman’s name had circled the role for several weeks, but an offer formally went out Monday, the same day the actor ended his 18-year association with his agency, Paradigm.

No word yet if Hoffman will accept the role, and no official word from Lionsgate yet either.  The latter is not surprising since Lionsgate has said they will not confirm any casting reports until they are ready to make an official announcement.

Is PlutarchWatch2012 about to end?  Let’s hope so, we’d love to see Hoffman take on the role!  Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Pleas, please, please, please, please, please…

  • I haven’t seen him act in anything, but he looks the part! And OMG I can’t believe we have a casting announcement

  • PLEASE

  • For some reason I imagined Plutarch to be a black man. Did anyone else or just me?

  • He is a fantastic actor, one of the most talented people I can think of. I think of him acting parts that are darker than the way I envision Plutarch. That being said, I’m sure he has plenty of range and he can play anything. Hope he takes the job and runs with it!

He totally can play anything! He’s played a rock journalist in Almost Famous and a rock DJ in The Boat That Rocked/Pirate Radio (two of my favorite movies), films that are not so super serious.

So freaking excited. One of the best actors of our age.

  • i saw him in Doubt movie. He’s great

  • maybe it’s just me but i imagined plutarch to be a bit younger, a la crane. i imagined him in his mid 40s with dark brown hair and fit. idk. but this is good too!

I always pictured Plutarch to be younger as well. Kiefer Sutherland was always the closest to my Plutarch, appearance-wise.

Philip would be perfect! Oscar winner
    I’ve seen him in Doubt and he was A M A Z I N G

  • He is one of the greatest actors of our time. He played Truman Capote in the biopic, and was brilliant – oscar brilliant.

  • I love how they cast people that you would never think of but they actually suit the role perfectly!

Hate me all you want, but I can’t picture Phillip Seymour Hoffman as Plutarch, I sort of pictured him as an older and wiser and more sensible Seneca Crane. I just can’t see Phillip pulling off that look.
