Deadline is reporting that not only will the Mockingjay movies indeed be split into two movies but we also have release dates for BOTH movies!
BREAKING … Lionsgate will release two films based on Mockingjay, the third book in Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games trilogy. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 will bow worldwide November 21, 2014, followed by The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 on November 20th, 2015. The first sequel, Catching Fire, is coming out November 22, 2013. The original Hunger Games bowed March 23 and has grossed $404.4 million at the domestic box office and $678.2 million worldwide.
Who’s excited for November release dates for both movies!?

Ugh! Damn you Lions Gate! splitting book 3 is totally unnecessary. It’s not even a big book, and MJ was kind of disappointing (IMO) part one will probably be boring.

-_^ …….. This is WAAAAYYY too far away!!!!! Personally I dont mind sitting in a theatre for 4 hours if it means seeing the movie sooner!!! And this is gonna be just like Harry Potter…… all the cool stuff you look forward to is gonna be at the end!!!!

I honestly didn’t even want to look at the dates, but they actually weren’t as bad as a thought. I was expecting like 2 years in between, but a year apart isn’t as bad. I just worry that they won’t have enough time to make a great film in that amount of time.

With Harry Potter, the decision to split the last book was made by the moviemakers because they felt they wouldn’t be able to make one movie out of it with that being a good movie. With The Hunger Games (and I guess Twilight as well) the decision was made by the studio, ’cause they saw an easy way to make more money. Of course, the bug guys at Warner Bros. will most certainly have made a jump in the air with the idea of an extra film, but the extra money wasn’t the reason to do it, and this time it is and that’s not the way to treat fans who want to see a good representation of the material they love so badly.
I for one do not think that there’s a need to split Mockingjay. Everything goes very fast in this particular story so no, you wouldn’t end up with a three-hour movie if you’d make only one.
I thought Lionsgate was different then all those Hollywood vultures but apparently I was wrong.

I don’t see the point in making it into two movies, it doesn’t really matter cause we cant do anything about it, but all three books have almost the same amount of pages, why split the last one.

Okay . . . so if anything (if it HAS to be four movies) I’d think splitting Catching Fire would be much more logical.
I mean, at least that story is kind of told in two separate parts. First the part about the victory tour and life back in District Twelve.
And then their second Hunger Games (plus the preparations for them) and the building up to the uprisings/the war.
I mean, Mockingjay just has a whole lot of District Thirteen (and a few different trips to other districts). And then there is the final battle against/in the Capitol. How the H* are they going to split THAT in two?
. . . before Peeta’s return to Katniss, and after or something . . . ? (that’s the only thing I can come with, that devides the story kind of evenly).
What do you guys think? (I’m actually getting kind of curious)
P.S.: Catching Fire is also by many viewed as the best book of the three. So that would also be a good reason to split it instead of Mockingjay. . .

My guess and hope is they’ll expand on the revolution more. Perhaps going out and showing things in the Districts. And more with Snow and Coin too. Mockingjay is my favorite book in the series but I think there is a lot they could do to flesh out things outside of Katniss’s perspective.

Wholey-smokes!!! They haven’t even started filming Catching Fire yet! I hope they’re not getting too ahead of themselves…If I were an actress and in HG, this is the moment we’re I’d be totally freaking out- idk y. HEY WAIT A SECOND!!!! Liam, Jenifer & Josh are only contracted for three movies!!!! (right?) Hmmm…. maybe they’ll film Mockingjay p.1 & 2 at the same time……. Otherwise, this could turn into every fans worst nightmare…..
Theresa

The main cast is all ready contracted for 4 films. They were looking ahead when they started the casting process.

Kainat
on said:
Nope.. no coincidence… I wonder why they did that though… Or why most come out in November..
Ryan
on said:
They made it those dates b/c they are all on a Friday, when most movies are released. And they are in November b/c its holiday season and people go to the movies more frequently, as well as it gives them more of a chance to be recognized at the Academy Awards.
Kainat

Well then maybe it is a coincidence

Why is everyone complaining about Mockingjay being split into two parts? They have said that all along; one would think everyone would be over it and would have accepted the fact by now…

Theresa

Yes and no, X-men will still have priority on her, so if they want to film a 3rd one in there, they have dibs because she signed on to their franchise first. But it will lock her down from some other films. Though I’m sure she’ll find a way to sneak some in there.

AHHHHH SO PUMPED EVEN THOUGH CATCHING FIRE ISN’T OUT!!!!!! And the best part is that Mockingjay is the shortest of the trilogy so they can’t possible leave anything out from the books!

I agree a 100% with what Kevin and Roos said. Splitting Mockingjay is sort of a waste since nothing overly complicated happens that would need the duration of two movies to explain. I found it quite quick and straight forward, personally :/
Like Roos wrote, if they HAD to make four movies Catching Fire should be the one with the extra time, as a lot more happens and progresses in it than Mockingjay.
But I’m keeping my finger’s crossed for what Theresa suggested, that the movies might expand the focus on the revolution and show more about it. I was disappointed on the lack of “action” (I suppose you could call it that, I’m not really sure how to explain it at the moment) that Mockingjay had, and it actually made the book quite boring for me. I’m hoping the film’s might bring some more battle’s!
Overall, I’m still excited for all the films. Can’t wait for Catching Fire! :]
I better stop now before this comment gets too long, LOL!

Mockingjay was so mentally intense for me, I don’t think I was ever bored. But I can understand your point.
Being trapped within Katniss for the book, we are where she is. So, if Hunger Games is any indication to what they can do when they go outside of her, I’m hopeful they’ll continue that. Imagine all the new fantastic scenes we could get.

I’m really hoping that Mockingjay Part 2 will focus entirely on the final battle and the aftermath. That was just a wonderfully grim and desolate set of events, closer to “Downfall” than to any English-language film. Jennifer Lawrence can definitely turn that into another Oscar-worthy performance.
Roos
on said:
That’s very true! (about Jennifer, ever seen the ‘Burning Plain’? she’s very grim and desolate there).
And I hope they’ll show a little more of Panem after the war, what sort of a country it becomes.
And some extra Peeta + Katniss + kids can’t hurt either!!;)
Theresa
on said:
Yes, the final battle can definitely be fleshed out, especially with effects, etc. Maybe even some perspective into Snow and Coin while they watch the proceedings happen. Ooooh that would be so amazing.
And the trial…can we get a glimpse into that? Though a part of me wonders if we’ll end up staying with Katniss during that point just for dramatic effect. Hmmm..what if the visual were on Katniss but we could “hear” the trial? Hmmm…
And Roos I like your idea of expanding on the epilogue as well.
Give us more about Panem, as well as the characters within it.

ok heres my perspective of this
lions gate is doing this for the dough
trying to copy twilight and hary poter
but the hunger games is just a 3 book series they books arent as long
Im glad they changed the director cuz the first movie sucked They needed to put it in first person like the book i guess if they do it it would be really strange to blow off one perspective for another so this thing about part one and two
completely stupid!
i inderstand how u can cut it off at that part where Peeta chokes katniss but WTF. what do they have for the first half?
SPOILER
k katniss wakes up blah blah blah
distric 13 blah blah blah
She does promos blah blah blah
acts like dumb bella from twilight
hunts with gale blah blah blah
The Hanging tree blah blah blah
peeta acting weird during the capitals propmos
I guess he only action they would have are doing the promos that bombing the capital made and recquing peeta
unlike the hunger games or catching fire where the whole thing action and live fighting
So in part 2 another year u would have to wait so much for action like the (well dont wanna ruin the ending) so the first half would die off without the second if u know what i mean
whats up with the november thing people why cant it be like on November 29 ( my bday) or something near chirstmas or new years . THE HUNGER GAMES WERE ON MARCH LIONSGATE STOP TRING TO COPY OF TWILIGHT U ALREADY MADE HUGE SUCCSES ON THE FIRST MOVIE DONT PUSH IT! I think if the hunger games did its own thing it would be more unique just like the actual book but i can also give u a point on part 1 and 2
(IN CAPS CUZ I SAID ALOT ABOUT HOW IM AGAINST IT)
4 HRA FULL OF HUNGER GAMES INSTEAD OF SHORT INCORECT CRAP U CALL DETAILS. I GUESS THIS WILL HELP FORGET HOW THE FIRST WAS SO BAD
the only thing that really doesnt work is how you have to wait like a year in a half for catching fire which isnt like twilight (ok im comparing to twilight) or harry potter. But personally i thing the first director srewed the first movie completely
well thats al i want to comment bye?
