BREAKING: JEFFREY WRIGHT CAST AS BEETEE IN LIONSGATE’S THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE

9/7/2012Catching Fire

LionsGate Publicity is now reporting that JEFFREY WRIGHT CAST AS BEETEE IN LIONSGATE’S THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE:

Santa Monica, CA, September 7, 2012- Lionsgate® and the filmmakers of THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE are pleased to announce that Jeffrey Wright has been cast in the role of Beetee in the much anticipated film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ worldwide smash hit novel Catching Fire. Hailing from District 3, Beetee earns the nickname “Volts” because of his electronics expertise.

Critically acclaimed and known to theater, film and television audiences alike, Wright garnered a Tony® Award in 1994 for his work in Tony Kushner’s Pulitzer Prize-winning epic “Angels in America” and reprised his “Angels” role in HBO’s 2003 mini-series adaptation of the play, earning both a Golden Globe® and an Emmy® for his groundbreaking performance.  Since then he has played memorable roles in films as diverse as BASQUIAT, SOURCE CODE, CASINO ROYALE and QUANTUM OF SOLACE, W, SYRIANA, and CADILLAC RECORDS.  Wright can next be seen with Mark Walhberg, Russell Crowe and Catherine Zeta-Jones in Allen Hughes’ political thriller BROKEN CITY.

THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark.   Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts.  Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.

THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE will be directed by Francis Lawrence, and produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. The novel on which the film is based is the second in a trilogy that has sold more than 50 million books in print and digital in the U.S. alone.

Lionsgate will release THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE on November 22, 2013.

  • Really?! He’s an *excellent* actor! I’m sure he’ll do a fantastic job!

  • YEY! He is such a great actor! Congratulations!

  • I like it

  • wow…definitely NOT how i pictured him. I pictured a skinny white older male (like 40-50) with crazy grey ish hair sticking up all over the place. i wont judge until i see the movie, but disappointed with this choice based on how i pictured him.

    • I pictured that as well, but with black-starting-to-go-grey hair. But you never know, he could be really good as Beetee. We’ll just have to wait and see.

  • Not how I pictured him either but I’m sure he’ll do great :D I trust Lionsgate!

  • Loves it! He is an incredible actor!

  • Not what I was thinking but I think it is genius. He looks like he really could be a victor, not some weakling. He is one of my favorite characters.

  • OH I love him!!!! He’s going to be mind-blowing!

Aw. There go my Colin Firth dreams. Didn’t think he was gonna be cast, but it was nice to hope. :P Anyway, this is not how I pictured Beetee AT ALL, but I certainly don’t have a problem with it. I’ve seen some of the movies this guy was in, but I never noticed him specifically….hopefully he’s a good actor. I trust Lionsgate on this one. :)

  • you are SOOO right about Colin Firth, he would have been excellent. Beetee does have a certain Mr. Darcy quality about him.

  • Wow – my favorite charachter in the hands of a very good actor! I’m pleased :)

I don’t care how he looks now – makeup can change that anyways :)

  • Not exactly what i pictured for Beetee but Im sure Lionsgate picted him because he was best for the part. Im sure he will be amazing.

  • Although a brilliant actor, he’s dosen’t right for this role. However, I’ll defer to the casting people at Lionsgate, whose record is so far inpeccable.

  • Wright actually played a “mad scientist” type in the film Source Code, and I think he’ll definitely do a good job playing Beetee. Here’s a link to an IMDB screenshot of Wright playing Dr. Rutledge:

He looks very Beetee-ish to me in that pic!

  • Is there any reason why the actor playing BeeTee can’t be African-American? I can’t think of one.

And Mark is right. Lionsgate has done an excellent job of casting this franchise so far, so yeah, I’m okay with it.

The proof is in the viewing, a year from November.

    I agree with miss betty!
Im sure he will rock! And before i did picure him as more Einstine like but now i picture him like that, an idian accent, a smart personality, and kind of like Balgeet from phinius and ferb! Finnick was a bigger dispointment of the casting for me. He just didnt have the finnick look

  • This is not how a pictured Beetee at all! But i hope he does a good job

  • Wow, he looks nothing like I pictured Beetee…….. and I have no idea who he is- but everyone here is saying he’s a good actor, so I guess we could do a lot worse! lol!
