Thanks to The Hollywood Reporter we have now learned that Danny Strong, screenwriter for Mockingjay Part 1, has been given the go-ahead to begin work on the script for Part 2!
Lionsgate has exercised its option for Danny Strong, who wrote the award-winning HBO movie Game Change, to pen the script for the second part of the company’s adaptation of Mockingjay, the finale of the Hunger Gamesmovie series.
Strong had already written the script for Mockingjay, Part 1 and had a deal to write the script for the second part. But it was always contingent on the studio liking and approving his draft for Part One.

As long as he can justify the split i.e. no Breaking Dawn.
Mockingjay is the book that I liked the least, beacause I felt it was rushed and main characters were killed off so fast that you didn’t even have the time to care. I hope they can fix that, given the opportunity to make two films.

There’s no need to “justify” the split. Mockingjay is a book in which so many things happen that it would be impossible to properly adapt it without making it two movies, or one 4-hours long movie, and it’s obvious which one of the two is commercially sounder. I find it bizarre that so many fans are criticizing them for splitting it instead of being happy. And that from the same fandom that keeps complaining why they didn’t include every single detail in the first movie and make it 4 hours long.

I predict the 2 Mockingjay movies will bear the least resemblance to the book, of the 3 books. There’s a lot of detail that isn’t fleshed out. I”m not sure I’ll see it. I thought MJ was a mess, as a novel. I’ll wait for the feedback before I go to the movies.
