8/27/2012Fireside Chat

It’s Monday time for another episode of The Hunger Games Fireside Chat Podcast.  Tonight the main course (err topic) for discussion is the official casting announcement of Sam Claflin as Finnick Odair.  But that’s not all that’s on tap, read on to check out the topic list.

- We’ll open the show by addressing last Wednesday’s EPIC (but not entirely unexpected) news: Sam Claflin was cast as Finnick Odair! Finally, after over a MONTH of rumors and speculation, it’s now official! “Finnick Watch 2012″ has officially ended and Hunger Games history has been made. We’ll share our opinions of Sam and this casting decision and also talk about what fan reactions have been like thus far.

- After getting all of our Sam/Finnick feelings out, we’ll revisit the non-exclusive DVD/Blu-ray special features. We talked about them last week, but now that everyone has had a chance to watch them, we’ll go a bit more in-depth with our discussion. NEXT week, on Episode 74, we’ll take a look at the special features that can only be found on the Target, Walmart, and iTunes editions of the movie.

- We’ll cap off the show by pulling a few fun topics and questions out of our topic cornucopia (grab bag). Yay!

Episode #72 of The Hunger Games Fireside Chat Podcast Airs LIVE Tonight!

8/20/2012Fireside Chat

Are you ready for some DVD discussion? On tonight’s episode of The Hunger Games Fireside Chat Podcast it’s all DVD all the time. Okay with a little casting news thrown in re: our new Cashmere. Read on to find out what’s all on tap for tonight.

- We’ll start out by discussing Stephanie Leigh Schlund, our Cashmere! This announcement came last Tuesday and was — tragically! — the last bit of casting news we received all week. Leave us a comment and let us know what you think of Stephanie!

- Next, we’ll share our midnight DVD release party experiences since several of our panelists were able to interview some of the cast members at their Walmart appearances. Adam was lucky enough to interview Amandla Stenberg at Toys ‘R’ Us in Times Square on Saturday, so we’ll talk about that, too!

- We’ll spend the rest of the show talking about the DVD itself! Our main focus will be all of the incredible special features, so make sure you’ve watched them before you listen! That said, we will only be talking about the “standard” special features found on every DVD/Blu-ray: Game Maker, The World is Watching, Letters from the Rose Garden, Controlling the Games, A Conversation with Gary Ross and Elvis Mitchell, Propaganda Film, and Marketing Gallery. Next week we’ll hone in on the special features exclusive to Target, Walmart, and iTunes!

It’s Monday, time for another discussion filled episode of The Hunger Games Fireside Chat.  Read on to find out what the panelists will be talking about tonight.

“The Mags-nificent Lynn Cohen”

CLICK HERE TO LISTEN TO EPISODE 70 *LIVE* THIS MONDAY NIGHT (8/6/12) AT 10PM ET/7PM PT!

- We’ll kick things off by talking about Lynn Cohen, our Mags! This casting announcement came last Thursday (8/2), and we’re pretty darn excited about it. Best known for playing MAGda (ha!) in Sex and the City, Lynn’s film and theatre background is pretty extensive. You can learn more about her here and watch a really cute interview with her here.

- We’ll also spend some time discussing the latest news concerning filming locations and schedules. In a recent interview with Ryan Seacrest, Josh Hutcherson not only confirmed that they will indeed be filming in Atlanta, but also that he’d be flying to Atlanta to start shooting in about two weeks. Woah! We’ll also address the Oahu rumor.

- After some sleuthing, The Hob discovered that the working title for Catching Fire MIGHT BE The Idiom. We’ll chat about the evidence and possible extras casting opportunities…

- Lastly, time permitting, we’ll weigh in on the “steamy” Crackpot Theory and impossible Cave, Marry, Kill that we skipped last week!

7/30/2012Fireside Chat

It’s Monday!  Time for another discussion filled episode of The Hunger Games Fireside Chat Podcast.  What will the panelists be chatting about tonight?  Read on to find out.

“Parade of Districts”

CLICK HERE TO LISTEN TO EPISODE 69 *LIVE* THIS MONDAY NIGHT (7/30/12) AT 10PM ET/7PM PT!

We’ll begin the show by discussing and analyzing the first official map of Panem, which was released through the Facebook game The Hunger Games Adventures. If you haven’t seen the map yet, check it out at the bottom of this post (you can click on the image for a high-res version)! Let us know in the comments what you think of the map. Is it what you expected? Any surprises? What questions does it raise for you?

As you’ll see, only the locations for the Capitol and District 12 are labeled on this version of the map. Inside the game, however, you can also unlock the locations for Districts 2 and 11. Click here to see a screenshot of the map that includes those locations. FYI: The actual populated district locations are where you see the symbols/emblems on the map. The rest of the land in each district is wild and uninhabited.

New districts will be unlocked in the coming months, so be sure to sign up to play The Hunger Games Adventures if you haven’t already.

- In honor and in celebration of the London 2012 Summer Olympics, which officially opened this past Friday, we’ll challenge ourselves and our panelists to assign Olympic events to our favorite Hunger Games characters. We’ll also talk a bit about how The Hunger Games has boosted interest in archery at the Olympics.

- To conclude, we’ll examine a rather steamy Crackpot Theory (submitted by listener Shelbi) and do a particularly difficult round of Cave, Marry, Kill.

It’s Monday time for another fun-filled episode of The HG Fireside Chat Podcast.  What will the panelists be discussing tonight?  Read on for details.

“Who is Sam Claflin?”

CLICK HERE TO LISTEN TO EPISODE 68 *LIVE* THIS MONDAY NIGHT (7/23/12) AT 10PM ET/7PM PT!

- We’ll kick off the show by recapping the 2012 Teen Choice Awards, which are set to air on Sunday night in the U.S. How did The Hunger Games fare?

- Next, we’ll welcome the amazing Amanda Plummer to the franchise! We learned last Tuesday that Amanda will be playing Wiress, and we couldn’t be more excited about this casting decision. Let us know in the comments what you think about Amanda — we’ll share as many of your opinions as we can!

Update: We’ll also briefly talk about Jena Malone and welcome her to the cast as Johanna! Since we already did an entire episode centered around Jena and the possibility of her playing Johanna, we won’t spend too much time on this.

- We’ll then turn our attention to Sam Claflin, who is rumored to have been offered the role of Finnick. We first talked about Sam on Episode 63 after Lainey Gossip reported that he had auditioned. Now Zap2it is claiming that he has been offered the role, and according to Gossip Cop, he has accepted. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT THESE ARE RUMORS. Contrary to a lot of the headlines that have been floating around out there, Sam Claflin has NOT been officially cast as Finnick. To stay abreast of all OFFICIAL casting news, follow @lionsgatenews on Twitter and keep an eye on CatchingFireCasting.com.

- Lastly, we’ll chat with YouTuber extraordinaire CassJayTuck (real name: Cassidy Tucker) about her love of the series and a certain lovesick baker that has taken up residence in her home. (For a taste of what Cassidy is all about, check out her Hunger Games movie reaction or her “How to Get the Fangirl Look” tutorial!)
