4/1/2013DVD/Blu-ray, Gary RossAldrin
As much as we love our Hunger Games DVDs, one thing many fans were upset about was the fact that Gary Ross felt that deleted scenes were not necessary to include in any home video release. In a past interview with the New York Times, Ross explained his reasoning.
“The movie I put out is the movie that I want, and I wouldn’t add anything to the running time. Equally, I would never make a movie too short just for sake of running time. I think a director should stand behind the cut of their film. I won’t be putting “additional” scenes on the DVD for the same reason.”
Now, it seems Ross might be changing his mind. In a move nobody was expecting, the first Hunger Games Director has approved a special One-Year Anniversary Edition of The Hunger Games on Blu-ray and DVD, which will include never-before-seen footage from the filming of the movie. Some scenes rumored to be featured in this special release includes scenes shot to more closely resemble the book, in addition to a “shocking” ending that was cut from the theatrical release last minute.
Some DWTC staffers were fortunate enough to head into Lionsgate HQ in California to preview the upcoming footage. While we can’t say much about it, fans will certainly be pleased and even surprised at what they were missing out on.
While this special edition release commerates the one-year anniversary of The Hunger Games being released in theaters, complications have delayed copies showing up in stores. As soon as we hear anything, we’ll be sure to let you know!
Would you buy a new copy of The Hunger Games just to see these special features? Let us know in the comments below!

Annie Thurman, who portrayed the District 9 Female Tribute in the first film recently spoke to SciFi Pulse about her experiences on The Hunger Games, her upcoming projects, and the YA Adaptions she’d love to be in next.
The interview begins at the 3:20 mark.
Tonight’s the big night, Tributes! The Hunger Games is nominated for 7 People’s Choice Awards and this evening we’ll finally learn if it has reaped any accolades. (which of course we highly think it deserves!)
In addition to the nominations, we have confirmations that Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth will all be in attendance. (Katniss, Peeta and Gale under one roof, we might implode from the awesomeness of it all!)
Coverage of the event begins at 8 pm ET with a live stream of the red carpet which you can check out here.
The show begins at 9 pm ET LIVE on CBS. We are still looking for potential Live Streams of the show. So far many we thought might work, have lead right back to the red carpet stream.
We’ll definitely update if/when we locate any. Please let us know in the comments if you’ve come across a working stream for the show.
Of course DWTC will be watching and bringing you all the latest updates from the show, here on the site, Twitter and Facebook. Be on the look out for more details later today, as the red carpet approaches.

Broadway World has a fantastic new and in-depth interview with non other than Haymitch himself, Woody Harrelson. The discussion hits many points from A Bullet for Adolf to The Hunger Games, Catching Fire and all stops in between.
During the interview Woody mentions his excitement to work with Philip Seymour Hoffman and to get back on set with Jennifer Lawrence and the rest of the cast as well.
PC: Will you be attending the Emmys this weekend in support of GAME CHANGE and its multiple nominations, including yours for Best Actor In A Movie Made For TV?
WH: Well, I’d like to, but I’m supposed to be filming [THE HUNGER GAMES] in Atlanta all next week, so we’ll see how that goes…
PC: Last question: what have you experiences like been so far working with your new HUNGER GAMES cast-mate Philip Seymour Hoffman – who has also done this column, incidentally?
WH: Oh, well, I am leaving tomorrow to go to Atlanta to film the new HUNGER GAMES, but I can tell you that there definitely will be some stuff that we have together in the next film. And, I think he is just one of the greats, so I am really looking forward to working with him.
PC: Do you two know each other through Paul Thomas Anderson? Have you and Philip ever worked together?
WH: We’ve never worked together, I don’t think, but we’ve known each other for a while – and we’ve hung out a few times. He’s a real prince of a guy.
PC: From my experience, it seems that you both are so open and cool and really just all about the work. WH: That’s really nice to hear, so I appreciate you saying it, man.
PC: Jennifer Lawrence is another co-star of yours who is poised to take Hollywood by storm.
WH: Oh, she’s so incredibly talented – yeah, she’s great. All of them are really great on THE HUNGER GAMES, so I am looking forward to getting back there to Atlanta.
PC: Does this look like it might be your career high next year with such hi-profile stage, small screen and big screen projects?
WH: [Laughs.] Well, you never know for sure about things like that, but I feel really great about how things are right now. Right now, I guess I feel like my main focus is still BULLET FOR ADOLF, but, soon, it will be all about CATCHING FIRE.
